A Chance On Love
“It is better to have loved and lost than never to have lost at all.” - Samuel Butler -
I’ll vouch for that! A very similar quote by Alfred Lord Tennyson has a slightly different ending - ’loved’ rather than ’lost’, but both are true.
On this St. Valentine’s Day eve, I have recollections of being single and hating Valentine Days – with a passion – because I didn’t have a significant someone to share them with. I never dated in school, and really didn’t date much as an adult. But after a series of questionable & one sided attractions (either way), I FINALLY gave my heart to a guy I dated who initially started out as a good friend. I was convinced he was ‘the one’ and when I told him I loved him, he high tailed it from our relationship like a dog being chased by a swarm o’ bees. My ache seemed unbearable & I cried for days & nights. But once I got all the sadness out of my system, boy was I mad & swore off men FOREVER!! Forever? Really?
Yes, I have loved, lost, was sad, got mad, and now … am glad! What – or who – I thought was the real meal deal back then was only a tiny morsel of what was in my future. It scared me like crrrrrazy to give my heart away again & to utter the words ‘I Love You’ at the next opportunity – the ‘opportunity’ who became my husband. Eric was soooo worth waiting for and he’s waaay better looking than who I might have had (sorry about that Mr. ex). Still can’t believe it sometimes – that I have such a hunk of a valentine to celebrate with every year. Now it’s all about loving the right man on this earth FOREVER!! Really!!
Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!
